The Finnish Army has released photos of the latest version of the basic weapon issued to its soldiers - the Valmet RK62M.
Following the global trends, the Finns have introduced a number of ergonomic features ensuring that the weapon is modular and more comfortable to use. Valmet carbines, in their basic version, were put into service in 1965 and 300,000 units were produced until the early 1990s.
The new RK62M carbines have improved, more ergonomic fire selector, new side mounting for optical sights, AR15 type collapsible stock and some models (M2 and M3) have fronts made in the MLOK system.
M1 model is the basic and the cheapest version. It has an old type front without MLOK mounting points. Modifications have also increased the weight of the carbine to about 4.1 kg. The carbines are still feed by AK type magazines.
