Continuing our series of articles about tactical equipment made by Neptune Spear, we present another, very useful element of each tactical set. Neptune Spear, a Polish manufacturer of tactical equipment from Częstochowa, has refreshed its offer by modernizing the previously sold dump pouches. The latest models, the DP-S and the DP, have improved aesthetics and quality of finish.
Both models are practically identical: they differ only in the total length when unfolded. The shorter one is 23 centimeters long, while the longer one is 29 centimeters long. The outer circumference is 60 centimeters, which gives a fairly large opening to comfortably drop an empty magazine into. The collar protecting the contents from falling out is 3 cm wide. Inside the collar there is a shock cord designed to reduce the hole's width, which ultimately is to prevent the loss of magazines.
The cord mentioned earlier is of very good quality, round and 5 millimeters thick. It is adjusted with an ITW GTSP Cordlock. I was most able to tighten it to a circumference of 35 centimeters. The shape is held by a stiffener going around the pouch. It is made of a composite, 4 centimeters wide, which maintains the ellipsoidal form of the dump pouch. This definitely has a positive effect on the ergonomics of using the pouch. In the case of the models presented by us, the Cordura fabric with a yarn size of 500D in Multicam camouflage was used. It give the pouches great balance between weight, flexibility and durability. In addition, there is a mesh at the bottom, also in the same camo as the rest of the pouch. Thanks to this, dirt that fall into the bag has a chance to falling out of it, similarly to water.
This solution, while having the obvious function of letting unwanted contents of the pouch has also a high probability of collecting dirt if the bottom of the mesh comes into contact with a loose sandy ground. However, if we intend to use this product mainly at a shooting range, then the above concerns are not important. Here I also have to raise an issue that personally worries me a little. Namely, I am worried about securing of the top opening. Despite the fact that the collar is tightened enough and there is also have a flap at our disposal, I would be worried about the contents dropped in to the pouch. Of course, the previously mentioned flap effectively blocks larger objects from falling out, but then the opening becomes a bit too small to comfortably fit a spent magazine in. I personally dealt with this issue by hooking the flap on one side, leaving a larger opening at the back of the bag. Unfortunately, in this case the Velcro sticks only to the half of its dedicated surface.
While we're at it, it should be noted that all Velcros are very carefully finished and their corners have been rounded. Adding to this the fact that the loop surfaces are made in the camouflage colors and it definitely adds to the aesthetics. Personally, I would like its surface to be additionally extended around the pouch. This would give us additional functionality.
The fastening system is compatible with MOLLE/PALS, made of laminate, is very interesting. The webbing straps, together with the mounting systemm are made of one piece of material and the cuts were made using a laser. The stiffener used here holds the whole so well that after moving the straps so that there is a space for a 5 cm wide belt, we do not have to worry about losing the drop pouch with its contents.
The final detail are two loops sewn at the bottom, which are to be used to put on a thigh strap through. It is not included in the set, but using the "tactical" elements available at a haberdashery, we can make one ourselves. Something that characterizes the refreshed line of Neptune Spear products is definitely the aesthetics and quality of craftsmanship. In this respect one can't find any faults in the case of the DP-S and DP-L models.
The dump pouches are available in several camo variants: Multicam, Ranger Green, Coyote Brown, black, Multicam Black, Multicam Tropic, Multicam Arid, Woodland and Wz93.
