At the MSPO Kielce fair, on a small, inconspicuous stand in the corner of one of the tents, there was an unofficial showcasing of the successor to the quite legendary Polish wz.98 combat knife.
Why is this a rather special information? Because the story of this weapon is known in the Polish Army to soldiers who remember its first foreign contingents. This is closely related to the wz. 62 KS, which were purchased in 1993-1994 in an amount of 3,000 units for the needs of the IFOR and SFOR forces. These knives were numbered and issued under the wz.92 designation. Its successor was the wz.98, which is still used by many units today. Therefore, the unofficial next model can be enjoyed by enthusiasts and people who are sentimental about this line of knives.
Due to the ongoing development work, it was still not officially presented, but thanks to an old acquaintance of ours, we were allowed to take a photo and reveal some details of the new model.
In terms of design, it is supposed to refer to the previous ones and, as its manufacturer, Military Łódź, emphasizes: it is devoid of the flaws of its predecessor. Additionally, the hybrid sheath, which is still being worked on, will enable mounting in virtually any way. The combination of plastic with laser-cut laminates and polyamide tapes is intended to ensure durable and safe attachment to any piece of equipment and directly to a soldier's limbs.
