Garmin has introduced the new generation of its tactical smartwatch – tactix 8. The new model is available in two variants, with a case diameter of 47 mm and 51 mm. The device has been enhanced with a range of new features tailored to different user groups.
Shooters will appreciate the shot counter, stage timer, and the built-in Applied Ballistics (AB) Ultralite ballistic calculator. The tactix 8 Elite model also supports the advanced Applied Ballistics Elite solver. Divers will benefit from dive tracking for both scuba and freediving, offering features such as a digital compass and gas mix support for up to 40% oxygen. For rucking enthusiasts, there is a function that tracks activity with a heavy backpack, adjusting training parameters based on its weight.
Additionally, users can access TopoActive maps and an Outdoor Maps+ subscription, providing satellite imagery and public land maps. The smartwatch also enables Direct-To navigation, aviation weather access, and supports the Jumpmaster mode for parachute jumps. Other new features include a built-in speaker and microphone, allowing smart functions. The device also supports fitness tracking, sleep monitoring, and performance analysis, and is compatible with an ECG app that can detect signs of atrial fibrillation.
The tactix 8 meets the requirements of the U.S. military standard MIL-STD-810, ensuring resistance to extreme temperatures, shock, and water. The watch allows diving up to a depth of 40 meters, while the titanium bezel and sapphire glass guarantee reliability even in the harshest conditions. The 47 mm variant with an AMOLED display offers up to 16 days of battery life on a single charge, whereas the 51 mm model with a solar panel can operate for up to 48 days.
Furthermore, the smartwatch includes a Stealth mode, which disables wireless communication while still collecting biometric data. The built-in LED flashlight, with white and green light, aids night operations, and the night vision mode adjusts screen brightness for NVG users.
