Is there still room for a classical touch alongside ubiquitous technology and development? Yes — and a proof of that is a certain diversification of the MCX family from SIG Sauer in the form of the Regulator model. Based on the modern bolt carrier of the MCX SPEAR-LT, the trigger housing was replaced with a design more reminiscent of the 20th century. A modern element was retained by using a Magpul stock for Mossberg 500/590 shotguns and by keeping the familiar control layout from the AR-15 platform, yet the overall silhouette recalls older designs. The AKATSUKI company has reproduced this design as a gas-powered replica in the Tokyo Marui MWS standard. Alongside the LevAR from G&G Armament, this is another product bringing a breath of Wild West atmosphere into the airsoft world.
The replica itself is made using aluminium, with steel internal parts. As in the original, the AR-15-style charging handle, tactical handguard, top rail and controls were preserved, with the only addition being a new 10-round magazine. The replica is based on the MWS standard, so it is possible to use other magazines of that standard as well. One Asian shop lists two color versions (black and tan), and the price for the AKATSUKI MCX Regular MWS GBBR replica is 2,055 USD, with 120 USD for additional 10-round magazines.
