First impression
The replica comes to us in a black box with some red features. The front part has the B&W Bold Warrior in Action logo. The box is sealed with a sliver Poseidon sticker which is to show the user that the B&W belongs to Poseidon. Inside the box we will find the replica and a magazine. After taking it into ones hand it feels quite heavy. What is interesting, in terms of weight, this replica does not differ much from the real firearm: the whole set weighs 915g, and 655g without the magazine. The original Beretta weighs 1160g and 944g accordingly. The pistol has a matte texture with is pleasant to the touch. The reviewed replica was black but Poseidon also offers this model in silver. The pistol rests firmly in ones hand. Unfortunately, all the problems existing in Beretta replicas made by other companies are also present here, namely a slight slack of the slide and the magazine which wobbles sideways a bit.
External design
The replica of the Beretta M9 pistol is made completely of metal and uses the popular TM system. It is a classic design without any modifications. All the buttons and switches, such as the magazine release button or the slide release, are placed on one side of the gun, while the safety switch is double-sided. The replica looks very good, but it lacks any markings present on the real firearm. The paint that covers the frame looks good but its durability is not. First scratches, especially on the edged surfaces which there are plenty if in the M9 pistol, could be seen after a very short time of using the replica.
The sights
Classical in design, metal sights are built into the slide and are not adjustable.
The pistol grip
The pistol grip has plastic panels with an anti-slip texture and the B&W logo. At the front and back of the grip, on the frame, there are vertical anti-slip grooves.
The magazine
The metal magazine has a capacity of 24 BBs. The replica is powered by green gas and the tank is inside the magazine. The magazine is gas tight, we did not notice any leaks in the magazine nor in the valves. Thanks to the replica being made in the TM standard, getting a spare magazine will not be a problem. One must just look for one with the compatible release valve.
Disassembly
The first step in disassembling the replica is similar to the one made in the real firearm: we take the magazine out from the replica, next we press the button on the right side of the gun, above the trigger which allows to release the slide disassembly latch on the other side. After turning the latch we can pull the slide forward and get access to the hop-up adjustment, which is situated under the slide.
The hop-up chamber
To get to the chamber we first have to take out the return spring and its guide. To do that, we have to rise the external barrel a bit. After taking the return mechanism out we can also remove the external barrel and the hop-up chamber. To take the barrels apart we have to remove one pin and than slide the inner barrel and the chamber out of the external barrel. The chamber is made from two halves screwed together with a Phillips screw. Before unscrewing it, we have to remove a plastic part which is responsible for holding the barrel. After stripping the chamber we get access to the hop-up bucking and the inner barrel. The black bucking used in the replica is typical for GBB replicas. It is of medium hardness and has a standard spinning nub.
The inner barrel
The brass inner barrel is 6,05 mm in diameter, has an engraver manufacturer's logo and the Air Cushion system. It works by having groves at both ends of the barrel. The groves at the entering end are meant to create an air cushion around the BB to minimize its contact with the walls of the barrel. The groves at the exiting end (Air Relief Divergence) are to stabilize the BB's trajectory by removing excess gas before the BB leaves the barrel. In theory, the whole system is to improve accuracy and repeatability of shots. In a further part of this review you will find out how it works in practice.
The pneumatic system
The nozzle, the guide and the blow-back system are made of plastic and metal. To get to them we must unscrew a single screw situated underneath the slide and remove the safety switch by unscrewing the pressure screw in the said switch. We must be careful not to loose the positioning mushroom which has a tendency of popping out during disassembly.
The trigger group
The trigger and the trigger group have been inserted into a two part housing. To get to them we must disassemble the slide latch by turning it up and pulling it to the side. Next we have to take off the plastic panels, the magazine release button and the trigger pin together with the trigger. Next we remove two pins from the pistol grip and we can pull the trigger group from the frame. Next we unscrew three Phillips screws and split the housing in two. This gives us access to the all the parts of the trigger and the trigger group. The design of the Beretty makes it easy to get this part dirty with sand therefore cleaning it will become a necessity sooner or later. Butting it back together can be a bit of a hustle because of the various springs, but this is typical for all Beretta replicas.
Shooting
My expectations towards the Air Cushion system were quire high and unfortunately were not completely fulfilled. The FPS spread is quite high as the muzzle velocity varied from 284 FPS to 303,6 FPS. As for the BB spread, shooting at a distance of 15 m, one BB missed the target and the rest were within the silhouette but the spread was still quite big. The blow-back is reduced yet it does not seem to improve accuracy. It does, however, allow to fire consecutive shots without the need to correct the aim much. An irritating thing is the lack of any marking indicating the direction the hop-up adjustment has to be turned to get the desired effect which means that we have to take the slide off several times before a proper adjustment can be made.
Below is a table presenting the amounts of FPS that were registered during our test. We use the XCORTECH X3500 chronograph. The test has been performed right after the replica had been taken out of the box:
299.6
303.6
303.5
294
291.5
303
294
284
291.6
289.9
An average of 295,4 FPS
Summary
The Beretty PBW-92B B&W Bold Warrior in Action replica, being part of Poseidon company, presented a classic pistol design, equipped with the Air Cushion system and a reduced blow-back, which were to improve accuracy and repeatability of shots. It is unfortunate that the manufacturer did not install the ICE PICK system which improves performance of the gas system in low temperatures. Furthermore, despite the fact that the replica itself is very well made, it lacks any marking of the real firearm which can discourage some user, especially reenactors. It has to be said though, that Poseidon is a promising manufacturer on the airsoft market ASG, therefore we hope that when making replicas in the future they will install all of their technological solutions into them and not only some of them, as in this case.
