Ukrainian sources on Telegram report that on August 14th, a Ukrainian sniper set a record for hitting a live target with a small arms at the longest distance. According to reports, a soldier from the Privid unit hit two Russian soldiers with a 14.5mm Snipex Alligator anti-materiel rifle from a range of 4,000 meters.
At this range, the shooter could not observe the target and was firing with the help of a drone equipped with an AI-based aiming correction system (whatever that means).
Privid is a sniper unit formed of eight sniper platoons, designed to perform special operations.
The Alligator anti-materiel rifle fires B-32 14.5x114 mm ammunition, developed by the Ukrainian company Snipex, the manufacturer of this rife. It has a 1.2 m long barrel, and the projectile accelerates to a muzzle velocity of approximately 1 km/s. It weighs 25 kg, and the manufacturer claims it can achieve a 1x1 m grouping at a range of 1.5 km, with a maximum range of 7 km.
For a long time, the record for the longest range hit of a live target was 3,450 m, achieved by a Canadian sniper pair in Afghanistan in 2017. After the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, this record was broken and by August 14th stood at 3,800 m. It was supposed to be set by an SBU sniper in November 2023.
