The conquest of all branches of the American armed forces by the SIG SAUER company has just entered its final phase.
As we read in the SIG SAUER press reselase of 17 June:
“The Marine Corps announcement to put the M18 in service with the Marines is a very exciting development for SIG SAUER, and a true testament to the success of the MHS program,” began Ron Cohen, President & CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc. “The Marine’s procurement of the M18 brings the adoption of our Modular Handgun System full circle, as this means, beginning in 2020, either the M17 or the M18 will be officially in service with every branch of the U.S. Military.”
M18 is a compact variant of the M17 pistol, which in turn is a variant of the P320, which meets the requirements of the US Army.
In February 2019, M18 has successfully passed the adoption test (LAT). Three M18 guns were used for the test, which included firing 12,000 shots from each one.“the MHS meets or exceeds requirements for accuracy, lethality, ergonomics, and safety,” as stated in the Director of Operation Testing and Evaluation (DOT&E) Annual Report.
Currently, the M17 and the M18 are used in the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. The USMC will start adopting the M18 pistol in 2020.
