Folding buttstocks in AK carbines and their clones are nothing new. AKS, AKMS, AMD, Tantal, Beryl - we all know them and we know what they are related to. Folding buttstocks in AKs have their advantages and disadvantages, but so far nobody has come up with the idea of a folding wooden buttstock for these iconic guns - we do not take into account custom made stocks.
The Kalashnikov Concern has released a limited edition commemorative TG2 carbine with a side folding wooden buttstock.
The TG2 is an AK-103 carbine powered by the 0.366 TKM round. The carbine was made to commemorate the 70th anniversary of accepting the original AK for service in the than Soviet army. The buttstock, front handguard and the upper handguard are made of walnut wood. All other features are similar to a standard TG2 carbine.
The price of a carbine in Russia is 89,910 RUB, which corresponds to roughly 1,425 USD. This is a fairly high price considering that the price of a standard TG2 (with a polymer parts) is 38,090 RUB (605 USD).
At present, it is not known whether the company will decide to introduce the individual buttstocks or conversion kits based on the above presented idea or other models with wooden stocks.
