According to our information, the first mention of the Malyuk rifle took place around 2015, when Interproinvest showed its prototype during an armaments expo in Ukraine.
The rifle is basically an AK carbine in the bullpup system, though with some obvious modifications. The project was a private enterprise, although it enjoyed some interest from the Ukrainian government, but without its direct involvement. The rifle was to replace the Soviet AK-5,45 mm and 7,62 mm rifles in the armed forces of Ukraine. The main advantage of the project, according to some commentators, is that the rifle is a modification of the existing AK platform, in contrast to Fort 221 (another Ukrainian company producing the Tavor rifle clone), which bases its product on foreign parts.
The Malyuk automatic rifle was designed to be suitable for both right and left-handed shooters. The ergonomic charging handle does not move while shooting, contrary to the AK carbines, thus preventing potential injuries to the chin and fingers.
The Malyuk's recoil has decreased by almost 50 percent compared to the Kalashnikov rifle, and its design allows for key operations such as turning the safety off, replacing the magazine and charging the weapon, using one hand.
The total weight of the rifle without a magazine is 3.2 kg, the maximum range is 500 m. The weapon can be adapted to various types of round: 5.45, 7.62 x 39 mm or 5.56 x 45 mm.
The photos show Ukrainian soldiers practicing, among other units, with the Green Berets from 10thSFG (A) unit, during Combined Resolve XI exercises, in which over 5,500 soldiers from 16 countries took part.
