The first day of the International Defense Industry Exhibition 2019 (MSPO) was significant because of submitting an official offer inquiry regarding the delivery of 180 Javelin anti-tank missiles, in their latest FGM-148F version, and 60 launchers.
The exchange of documents intended to initiate the purchase process was made by Brig. Dariusz Pluta, and from American side, Brig. Gen. Charles Hooper. The date of delivery of the missiles is not yet known, but it is predicted that if the request from the Polish side meets with a favorable decision of the US Congress (as per procedures), the weapon will reach Poland later this year.
Javelin model FGM-148F, the latest version, have the ability to fire at targets up to 4750 meters away. The tandem shape-charge warhead, weighing over eight kilograms, allows penetration of a tank armor with a thickness of up to 800 mm RHA. The FGM-148F missiles are a fire and forget weapon, which does not require a soldier to continuously aim at the target - an advanced warhead with an infrared sensor does this by itself.
If the purchase agreement is concluded, Poland will be the 21st user of the Javelins after such countries as Australia, Bahrain, Czech Republic, France, Lithuania, Malaysia, Norway, New Zealand, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
