Arcteryx, known from making outdoor clothing and equipment for civilians and uniformed services (the LEAF series), joins forces with other entrepreneurs from the area, such as Vancouver Mustang Survival, Boardroom and Kendor Textiles, to create medical aprons (protection level 3) for local healthcare workers who suffer equipment shortage due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The team received specific guidance from local healthcare professionals on how aprons should be designed and sewn. The first batch of 500 aprons is to be made next week.
The team working on the aprons will follow strict rules to maintain an appropriate distance between employees, including the appropriate placement of workplaces and the use of individual protective measures such as masks and gloves.
Before commissioning, the aprons are to be washed and disinfected by K-Bro Linen Systems, an operator of laundry and underwear services for hospitals and health care facilities throughout Canada.
