SIG SAUER, one of three companies qualified for the next stage of proceedings in the US ARMY US Next Generation Squad Weapons program, has presented photos from the "ceremony" of sending prototype weapons (carbines and light machine guns) to the recipient.
The U.S. Army invited three companies, SIG SAUER, General Dynamics and AAI Textron to cooperate in the above mentioned program in August 2019. Each company was ordered to provide an undisclosed number of prototype carbines and light machine guns (along with accessories such as silencers and ammunition feeding systems) for evaluation. In earlier stages, each company was required to provide demonstration models. Now it's time for the first batch of fully functional prototypes to be delivered for field testing and evaluation, the conclusions of which will be included in the second phase of the project scheduled for early 2021.
In the photos provided by SIG SAUER we can see the 6.8mm MCX Spear NGSW-R rifle and the 6.8mm SIG SAUER NGSW-AR light machine gun.
The delivery for the US ARMY also contained SIG SAUER 6.8 mm hybrid ammunition package and a set of silencers for both weapons.
