American industry portals have loudly announced their success, after several years of struggle, to lift the ban on the commercial export of domestically made silencers. In 2002, under President George W. Bush, the US State Department banned the commercial export of silencers, which prevented American manufacturers of these accessories from accessing potential foreign customers. Now, after years of lobbying by arms groups, the door seems to be open again.
ASA - the American Suppressor Association - tried to lift the restrictions in 2016, pushing for the commencement of works on the Suppressor Export Act draft in the Congress, but it did not receive sufficient support from the congressmen, including the Republicans.
Will the act change anything in the availability of American silencers on the European and Polish market, especially in the context of increased interest in these devices? Time will tell. It should be remembered that there are already some strong players in this industry in Europe and it may not be easy for Americans to get a share in this market.
