The ceremony of presenting specially prepared, commemorative pistols took place on July 27 and was part of the celebration of the 67th anniversary of the signing of the ceasefire between North and South Korea.
The Pektu-san commemorative pistols are a copy of the Czech CZ-75, although there is not much information about them. The weapon was named after Mount Pektu-san on the Korean-China border, the alleged, legendary birthplace of the second communist leader of Korea, Kim Jong-il.
The generals received the guns in decorated boxes, complete with an additional magazine and a cleaning kit. The weapon itself is also richly decorated with gold, and among the the North Korean coat of arms among other things.
This is not the first such ceremony with Kim Jong Un participating In 2019, photos of the dictator handing a chrome-plated Type 88 rifle (AKS 74 clone) to one of the soldiers from the Changlin unit were seen on the Internet.
