Once again, Sig Sauer has demonstrated that it is one of the most dynamically developing arms manufacturers in the modern world. This time, however, attention was focused on a variation on weapon models developed for the NGSW US Army program. The new "creation" of SIG is a prototype with the working name "SIG MCX Raptor".
According to the announcement, the Raptor is a hybrid of the full-size 7.62x51mm NATO SIG Spear rifle and the PDW SIG Rattler (5.56/.300BLK).
The weapon is in the prototype phase, but the announcements from Sig Sauer say that it is to be delivered to civilian users within a year.
The weapon is characterized by is compact dimensions (the Rattler has a 5.5 inch barrel and the Raptor barrel looks about 7-9 inches long), and a large recoil, which is provided by the .308 Win round. In the future, variants chambered for the 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.8 SIG caliber (proprietary Sig Sauer ammunition submitted to the NGSW program) are also planned.
The carbine is temporarily equipped with a handguard in the Key Mod system, although it will ultimately be a handguard with the MLok interface. The Raptor is fed from Spear magazines, as can be seen in the photos and it retains all the modular features of the MCX series, i.e. quick-change barrels and the stock.
An interesting fact is undoubtedly the additional charging handle, located on the left side of the receiver.
Prices have not been disclosed yet.
