According to the Polish Press Agency, on Tuesday, March 21, a permanent garrison of the US Army, "Camp Kościuszko", has been established in Poznań.
"Today we are witnessing the inauguration of a permanent presence of the US garrison on Polish soil. This is an important event both in the history of Poland and in the history of Polish-American relations" - said the head of the Ministry of National Defense during the ceremony.
It's not without reason that the garrison will be named as it is. Let us remind you that Tadeusz Kościuszko is a hero of both nations - he fought for Polish independence, but also for the United States in the 17th century, which was also mentioned by Mariusz Błaszczak during his speech.
The location of this permanent forward element of the US armed forces is very well thought out. On the one hand, training is being conducted on the recently acquired M1A2 SEPv3 main battle tanks at the training ground in Biedrusko. Again, at the airport in Powidz, increased air traffic from the American side has been observed for a long time. This, of course, results in a far-reaching expansion of this military unit.
The US Army garrison in Poznań is to support infrastructure and provide services to soldiers stationed in our country and is to consist of 12 military and 140 civilian employees. It is the eighth garrison of the US land forces in Europe, next to similarly functioning ones in Belgium, Italy and Germany, where there are 5 such units. So far, there has been a Regional Support Group in Poland. Such units still exist in the Black Sea region, in Romania and Bulgaria, and in the Western Balkans, in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo.
