Teledyne FLIR Defense, a Teledyne Technologies Incorporated company, has presented a new thermal imaging device designed for use with classic daytime scopes. The primary purpose of this device is to be mounted on sniper rifles (also chambered in 12.7 x 99 mm NATO) and LMGs.
What is noteworthy is the use of a cooled sensor operating in the MWIR spectrum, which, taking into account the use in specific climate and atmospheric conditions, can provide high thermal contrast.
The manufacturer mentions the possibility of detecting and identifying targets at a range exceeding 2,200 meters. The video below shows the device in use where it is capable of tracking the a round's flight path and the effects of hitting it even at long ranges in appropriate conditions.
