Just before the Shot Show 2025, Kel Tec, an American firearms manufacturer, has presented its next design. In addition to the widely known and unique designs such as KSG, RDB or PLR, it also has a fairly large family of short guns.
All of these designs are distinguished by an interesting approach to the subject matter which KelTec is famous for and a large part of them are made of polymers. This is also the case with the new PR57 pistol chambered in 5.7x28 mm. This design is quite different from other models offered on the market due to solutions that do not follow the main trends. The pistol is based on the barrel rotation system instead of the most commonly used barrel tilting.
Additionally, two guides with return springs have been placed under the barrel. As the manufacturer declares, this offers reduced recoil and 40% less weight compared to other designs in this caliber. Another unique feature (for today's standards) is the internal magazine, which is not replaceable, and ammunition is loaded via dedicated ammunition clips speedloaders (10 rounds).
The internal magazine has a capacity of 20 rounds (+1 in the chamber). Stripping the PR57 has also been simplified to a minimum, where after moving the trigger forward it is possible to remove the entire slide. The whole thing has been placed in a polymer housing with a round slide, vertical grooves along its entire length, iron sights and the possibility of mounting optics. The grip itself has a texture on its lower part and a rail below the barrel with a single socket for mounting flashlights or lasers. At the moment, the PR57 from KelTec has no official price, and availability has been announced for first quarter of 2025.
