At the beginning of the month, the Warsaw-based Hubertus Pro store, the representative of the Steyr ARMS brand in Poland, organized training for dealers and the media. The presentation primarily covered the newest Steyr AT pistols in the Steyr ARMS offering and was simultaneously their Polish premiere. Attendees could also get acquainted with other new products in Hubertus Pro’s range, such as Kynshot hydraulic buffers (including a complete novelty for Glock pistols!), a buffer tube with adjustable length featuring the Vantac D.A.D.S. (Direct Access Defense System), and the latest Aimpoint Duty RDS MR. After a dry presentation of the firearms, in the second part of the meeting participants moved to a shooting range prepared for them, where everyone could personally verify the qualities of each of the five new Steyr AT pistol models.

The meeting was led by Aleksander Poklewski-Koziełł, who spoke about the newest pistols in the Steyr ARMS lineup.

The new Steyr AT pistols are essentially Slovenian Arex Zero 1 pistols, based on the reliable Sig Sauer P226 design, but this time under the Steyr ARMS umbrella. This fact may surprise some of you, but recently both companies have become part of the same Czech RSBC holding. Two main models were presented: the Steyr ATD (from Austria Defence) in Compact and Compact Comp versions, intended for uniformed services and self-defense, and three Steyr ATC models (from Austria Competition) in Base 5”, Rock 5”, and Rock 6” versions aimed at competitive shooters practicing dynamic and precision shooting. The ATD Compact and Compact Comp pistols are slightly modified existing Arex Zero 1 versions on the market (the difference mainly concerns the trigger and its operation), while the ATC models are an advanced version developed by Steyr designers. Production of both series takes place in Slovenia.

All new models are Optic Ready, with the distinction that the ATD series uses polymer adaptor plates, while the ATC series uses metal ones. The Competition-family pistols visually differ from the Defence line by the silver color of the pistol frame and grips, which in the Base version are black and in the Rock are orange. Both ATD pistols, on the other hand, are finished in black. ATC pistols are hand-assembled and fitted, and they must meet stricter requirements for trigger workings and grouping achieved on a target (25 mm at a distance of 25 meters, while for ATD the requirement at the same distance is 50 mm), which participants of the presentation could verify themselves at the range. Especially the 6” barrel version simply hits where you want it to (and I am not a precision target shooter). A nice touch is the target showing the factory test grouping included with each Rock-series pistol.

The ATC pistols are fully made of steel, in contrast to the ATD where the frame is made of aluminum. The barrel is cold-hammer-forged and, in the case of the ATC, these are additionally match-grade barrels. At present there is no option to buy a pistol fitted with a compensator, but it is possible to order a second barrel. For improved ergonomics, the slide is ported and has serrations both at the front and the rear in all models, appropriate for each of them. A loaded-chamber indicator is placed on top of the slide. The sights are Sig Sauer standard. The ATC series is equipped with eleveated, adjustable LPA sights. Magazines are planned in 18- and 20-round capacities. A 25-round extension is available as a separate purchase.

The ATC version has a factory-tuned SAO (Single Action Only) trigger with full adjustability in terms of ergonomics, reset and an initial pull weight set at 1.4 kg. The exception is the Base, which has a DA trigger, similar to the ATD, with a pull weight around 5 kg for DA. Controls are sport-style and ambidextrous, and the decocker is hidden as an additional function of the slide stop. The grips are ergonomic and noticeably better than on the ATD version, especially for people with smaller hands. For demanding users the manufacturer provides an OpenSource file for self-modification and 3D printing of this element. Pistols are equipped with an Easy-Click Jetfunnel and various sizes of the funnel are also available.

What is characteristic for both pistol lines is that most parts are interchangeable between individual models, and their long list is available in the manufacturer's offering and will be expanded. The most demanding customer therefore has the possibility to assemble a pistol fully adapted to their requirements. All Steyr AT versions are offered with a rich set of accessories. Pistols are supplied with a cleaning kit, 3 magazines (except ATD Compact – 2 magazines), a set of 6 optic adaptor plates and replaceable hammer springs.

Steyr ARMS is one of the oldest firearms manufacturers in the world with a tradition dating back to 1864. The most recognizable products in the industry and in pop culture are the Steyr AUG, Steyr Scout carbines and the SSG sniper rifles. In the first half of last year (April 2024) the company was acquired by the Czech RSBC holding, which also owns the much younger Slovenian Arex, founded in 1994. Following this transaction, the strengthening of the famous Austrian brand on foreign markets and its further strategic development is anticipated. The representative of Steyr ARMS in Poland is Hubertus Pro based in Warsaw.
