This information was published on the 20th June 2017. During a variety of trials it was proven that the AK-12 meets all the design and usage criteria. This means that the carbine can enter service in the Russian army in the future as part of the Ratnik individual weapon system - the Russian future soldier program.
The design, as of yet, competes with other designs, and its main competitors are the A-545 and the A-762.
The AK-12, which trials were just concluded is the second version of this carbine. It is based on the AK-74, which was heavily modified. First of all, grouping and accuracy were improved, secondly the ergonomics were overhauled and the ability to customize the rifle buy its user. Also, a 3 round burt mode was added. The design is feed with a standard AK74 magazine.
