For a very long time now the manufacturer of ammunition were trying to introduce new technological solutions. One of the most interesting is the replacement of brass casings with polymer ones. The most important benefit of this is the reduced weight which, according to FightLite, can reach up to 30% in case of LMGs. The technology most sought after by soldier who have to carry big amounts of ammunition - its weight has a huge meaning for them. But if it was so easy such casing would have been widely used a long time ago. Numerous tests showed that the "plastic" ammunition currently available is to susceptible to heat generated by the weapon itself - especially by LMGs. There were also problems with humidity absorption and casing warping.
FightLite knowing about the drawbacks of the available polymer ammunition made constant upgrades in their products. This way they achieved its current, fifth generation. Currently, FightLite does not share the details of the technology used in their ammunition despite the declarations that it has non of the issues of its competitors. The main aim of the company is to get their polymer ammunition and the MCR (Mission Configurable Rifle), to replace the currently used M249 SAW.
