It is rumored that the last time Sig Sauer introduced a bolt-action rifle (SIG Sauer SSG 3000 model), computers run Windows 95, the US Army bought the Beretta M9, and people wore loose jeans.
Since then, the company has focused mainly on the market of handguns and semi-automatic weapons with great results.
However, Sig Sauer apparently wants to return to the game and is about to launch a new bolt-action rifle called Sig Sauer Cross.
SIG Cross is a departure from a traditional design of a rifle, it works on the principle of short action, with a bolt carrier with three locking lugs working in a single piece receiver.
The rifle is to be available in 3 calibers: .308 Winchester, 6.5 Creedmoor and the new 277 SIG Fury (a high pressure hybrid design) developed by Siga - which is still awaiting approval by SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute). The rifle is to be available with three barrel lengths: 16-inch 308 Winchester (1:10 twist rate), 18 and 24-inch 6.5 Creedmoor (1:8 twist rate).
As standard, shooters will receive a two-stage adjustable trigger with a adjustment range from 2.5 to 4 pounds and a 5-round Magpul magazine compatible with the AICS standard. The manufacturer assure the grouping will be below 0.5 MOA.
The estimated retail price is between 1,600 and 1779 USD. The rifle is expected to hit store shelves before summer 2020.
