The new sniper rifle in the hands of French shooters will be FN SCAR-H PR.
The new weapon will replace the 7.62x51 mm FR F2 rifles, which had been used since the 1980s.
The value of the announced contract by the French Ministry of Defense is 100 million euros, and it includes 2620 rifles, 1800 optical sights of the German company Schmidt & Bender, 1000 OIP Sensor Systems thermal sights and 6.3 million pieces of NATO 7.62x51 mm rounds. The rifles will be delivered with a set of accessories, including silencers and IR sights. The FN SCAR-H PR is an excellent version of the standard SCAR-H rifle designed for shooting targets at distances of up to 800 meters. Deliveries of Belgian weapons are expected to begin in 2020.
In addition, the French have announced signing a contract with Glock, worth EUR 44 million euros, for delivery of a new pistol for the armed forces.
It has not been disclosed which model of the Austrian pistol has been chosen, but it is presumed that it probably is the Glock 17 model.
Some of the pistols are to be delivered with "night" sights. 9 mm ammunition and UTM training guns are to be delivered by the Czech company Sellier and Bellot. The contract for 74,596 Glock pistol is to be completed by 2022. The Glocks are to replace the PA MAC 50 pistols in service.
