We have obtained a controversial information regarding the overhaul of the WIST-94 and WIST-94L pistols commissioned by the 2nd Logistics Base in Warsaw. The repairs of the pistols will be done between 2020-2022 and are to be carried out by Prexer Sp. z o.o., which is also the manufacturer of the above mentioned pistols.
The entire contract has a net value of 4,780,000 PLN (around 1,042,600 EUR). Prexer is the owner of the copyright and technological documentation for the Wist pistols, which undoubtedly had an impact on commissioning this company to repair them.
WIST-94 and WIST-94L 9x19 mm PARA pistols were created as a joint project of WITU in Zielonka and Prexer Sp. z o.o. based in Łódź. The aim of the project was to replace the P-64 and P-83 pistols commonly used in the Polish Army with a new weapon chambered for the NATO's 9x19 mm PARA round.
[Editorial comment] The decision seems controversial for several reasons. First of all, the WIST 94 pistol "is known" for its complicated disassembly and reassembly procedure, susceptibility to jamming (according to accounts of logistics specialists from the 10th Logistics Brigade serving in Afghanistan), a large number of misfires and magazines that can fall out on their own.
In addition, in the face of the introduction of the new VIS 100 (FB Ragun) pistols, does it make sense to modernize a design of at least questionable quality?
