The procedure of familiarizing with the new rifle was carried out on June 5, 2020 by soldiers of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team for 3rd Infantry Division called "Raiders" who will be the first to use the new rifle made by Heckler und Koch.
The initial training included disassembling, cleaning and assembling the weapon, as well as familiarizing with the operation and functions of the rifle. Then the soldiers, together with the TACOM civilian consulting and training group, went to the firing range to shoot their weapons and zero in the Sig Sauer Tango 6 1-6×24 scopes, which the new M110A1 is equipped with as standard.
During the familiarization course, David Parris, a former infantry soldier and one of TACOM's civilian experts, described the M110A1 with the following words:"We gave them (the US Army soldiers) a rifle that is precise and capable of closing the capability gap of 300-600 meters, which means it fills the maximum firing distance gap between the standard issue rifle and the sniper rifle.”
The M110A1, caliber 7.62x51 mm, is manufactured by Heckler & Koch and is the heart of the CSASS (Compact Semi-Automatic Sniper System). Heckler & Koch began delivering the first batches of new rifles earlier this year, sharing their first photos before shipping in April - as we informed WMASG readers.
The German company will provide a total of %000 to 6000 complete shooting systems consisting of the G28/HK417 rifle variant, the SIG Sauer Tango6 1-6×24 scope and the OSS Helix HX-QD 762 silencer.
