Modern times came to one of the oldest units of the British Armed Forces, the Royal Marines founded in 1664.
Changes in uniforms and insignia are part of the restructuring of the Royal Marines that are adapting to the new era of warfare. The transformation is to be in accordance with the naval traditions of the corps and will honor the predecessors of the naval commandos.
The new uniform is based on the Gen 4 series products made by the American company Crye Precision and consists of uniforms from the Combat and Field ranges (shirts, combat shirts, trousers and utility jackets). The uniform, unlike the MTP used so far, is covered with the original Crye Precision Multicam camouflage. The uniform will be completed, among other things, with Gen4 knee pads and TMH Trading belts.
Insignia worn on uniforms will also be changed. The patches (the so-called "Flash") with a navy blue background and red embroidery with the inscription Royal Marines Commando will be restored, and the legendary patch of the 3rd Commando Brigade of the Royal Marines with the Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife has been redesigned to show the 1940 model, referring to the insignia worn by commandos during World War II.
Naval commandos will also wear the so-called White Ensign in the dimmed version, a patch that will emphasize the unit's affiliation with the Royal Navy and Para Wings, also in a version with dimmed colors.
