German sources report that the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has selected a new pistol for the armed forces. The chosen model is the Heckler und Koch SFP9 SF. Lithuania is the first NATO country to choose the HK SFP9 as its primary military service pistol.
The contract for supply of an unspecified number of pistols over the next six years is worth approximately 1.57 million euros. The German company bested defeated five other competitors also wanting to sign this contract.
The SFP9 SF is a 9x19 mm striker fired pistol with a single action trigger, fed from double-stack magazines and with interchangeable grip panels, giving the user a total of 27 different configurations.
German weapons are constantly gaining new markets. It is currently in use in several police units around the world and in the Japanese armed forces.
Rumor has it that the SFP9 is also a serious contender to win the tender for a new pistol for the Swedish police.
