FN America has announced the signing of a contract (W15QKN-21-D-0038) with the US ARMY for the supply of the M240 machine gun model range. The contract is worth $ 92,104,736 and is scheduled for completion on June 8, 2026. The deliveries are to include not only the US ARMY, but also "other programs" run by the US Department of Defense.
The models to be delivered under the contract are the M240C (coaxial), M240B, M240L, M240D and M240H. Additionally, the contract covers spare parts and additional receivers.
The M240 machine gun is based on the FN MAG 58 and has been present in the American armed forces since the 1970s. It is chambered for the 7.62 × 51 cartridge. As rumor has it, True Velocity has successfully refitted the M240B to fire the "polymer" 6.8mm ammunition, which could extend the service life of these machine guns if the US ARMY decides to introduce new ammunition.
Apart from M240 machine guns, FN currently supplies the US armed forces with MK 46, MK 48 machine guns and SCAR MK17 and MK 20 SSR rifles.
