More than 10,000 soldiers from China and Russia (eastern military district) will take part in the Zapad 2021 maneuvers organized this year on the territory of the People's Republic of China. The area of the military maneuvers will be the Qingtongxia training ground in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

The use of aircraft, artillery and armored vehicles is planned on a large scale, and the maneuvers themselves are to be commanded jointly by Russian and Chinese commanders. As we read on the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense, the purpose of the exercises is to strengthen Russian-Chinese relations, comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.

The maneuvers are intended to demonstrate the determination and ability of both countries to fight terrorism and to jointly protect peace and stability in the region.
