Vortex Optics, a renowned manufacturer of targeting and observation sights, has included a new, Picatinny rail-mounted laser rangefinder module with a built-in ballistic computer, which can immediately become an attractive alternative to more expensive solutions made by other manufacturers.

The Impact® 4000 Ballistic Rail-Mounted Laser Rangefinder is capable of measuring the distance of objects situaed up to 4,000 yards (3,658 meters) away. Smaller and less regular measurement points limit this range: in the case of trees it will be 2,500 yards (2,286 meters), and a silhouette with the characteristics of a deer should allow measurement at a distance of up to 1,500 yards (1,372 meters).

Thanks to the presence of a monochromatic, backlit display and an advanced controller located on the rangefinder, it is possible to independently use all the implemented functions on the device itself. Additionally, the new Vortex Optics product is equipped with a Bluetooth module, compatible with the dedicated GeoBallistics application (available for Android and iOS systems), which further expands its capabilities.

If that wasn't enough, the Bluetooth module also connects to a remote controller (which comes with various types of mounts), allowing for even more intuitive use of the device after proper installation .

The ballistic computer implemented in the Impact® 4000 Ballistic Rail-Mounted Laser Rangefinder performs calculations in real time, using information provided by the temperature, humidity and air pressure sensors built into the module. There is also a compass on board, thanks to which it is possible to enter wind data, which are then tracked taking into account the direction of observation.

In terms of ballistic data, the new rangefinder includes predefined profiles for popular types of ammunition, the user can also edit them and introduce his/her own ones. The device can also remember settings and values for up to 10 different targets and allows to switch between them instantly.

The Impact® 4000 Ballistic Rail-Mounted Laser Rangefinder has dimensions of approximately 11.7 x 8.1 x 6.4 cm (length x width x height) and weighs just over 450 grams . It is powered by a single CR123 battery (the remote control uses a CR2032 battery). The set also includes additional elements to facilitate quick and simple calibration of the laser rangefinder.

The product which, according to the manufacturer, is intended to make calculations for long-distance shooters, is priced at 2,999.99 USD.
