In the short firearms market, the main trends often focus on John Browning designs, mainly in the form of the Colt 1911 (or the more modern 2011) and the already tried and true designs of Gaston Glock. Some attempt to combine elements of these designs, with a perfect example being the Hudson H9 and the later Daniel Defense HD9 (Daniel H9, the reincarnation of the innovative design from Hudson Mfg). Another approach in this regard was taken by the American company Staccato, renowned for its high-end Colt 2011 designs.
The new Staccato HD P4.0 and P4.5 models were presented at this year's Shot Show, offering a new approach to the 1911-style design with elements from other pistols. The mechanism still relies on the proven barrel tilting system, but some changes have been made. The most noticeable features are the absence of the grip safety and the relocation of the rear sights just behind the ejection port.
Thanks to this, it is possible to mount any optics directly on the slide while maintaining a low aiming line. The pistols feature an ambidextrous slide stop lever with an extended one on the left side. The safety switches are also ambidextrous. An interesting feature is the use of a front sight standard for the SIG P320/CZ 75, but the main point of interest in the new Staccato HD line is the use of Glock magazines. This is possible due to the modified grip geometry. By default, it is possible to use magazines with a capacity of 17 rounds, and with the pistol, we get two steel magazines.
At the moment, in the United States, only the Staccato HD P4 model with a 4-inch barrel is available, priced from 2499 to 2999 USD, depending on the selected package. The longer Staccato HD P4.5 model with a 4.5-inch barrel is announced to be released in the US in March, with a starting price of 2699 USD.
Since Poland has an official distributor of Staccato products (The official distributor of Staccato pistols in Poland), Best Hunter company from Warsaw, that the new models should be available for sale in the 2nd or 3rd quarter of 2025, with prices similar to other models, so around 3300-4000 EUR.
