Fedrunek by Hammer ASG Team – Silesia: once held twice a year, later discontinued so that the organizers could focus on developing the parallel MARSH series. Last year it humbly returned, rekindling players’ enthusiasm. And now? After the past weekend, it’s safe to assume that it has once again firmly established itself in the airsoft calendars of communities across Poland – especially since we already know that upcoming events from MARSH Airsoft Events are set to significantly change their character.

This year’s Fedrunek took place on October 18–19 – and, just like last year – in the forests near the town of Kalety (Silesian Voivodeship).

The game mechanics didn’t change much this year. It’s a 24-hour staff-style airsoft game entirely focused on infantry operations (no vehicles involved), which from its very first edition has allowed the use of optoelectronics for night missions. The concept is simple yet extremely playable: two factions – Blue and Green (later renamed to Sapphire and Emerald, though players seem to find the storyline rather unnecessary) – compete over control of three uranium mines on a medium-sized field. These provide point income and uranium extraction, which is valuable on its own but can also be used to complete even more rewarding special missions.

During the game, very little is handed to players on a silver platter. Reconnaissance conducted by both sides plays a major role. The location of each faction’s base is classified, as is the position of the mines themselves or the special “uranium enrichment point.” Both Green and Blue teams must find them on their own. In the past, an important part of the gameplay was writing down codes from control points scattered across the map, but this mechanic has now lost significance and serves as one of the special missions.

Besides controlling and mining, a lot of attention is given to planning offensive... and defensive operations. The gathered ore isn’t safe – faction bases are always in play and can be captured and looted. The role of HQs and commanders becomes even more apparent here: properly allocating forces, coordinating operations, finding a balance between objectives, setting priorities, and rotating units to maintain morale – all of that is key to success. And although it’s often said that the winner is the one who has the most fun, competition and the final score have always mattered to Fedrunek participants.

This year, the HQs were led by Kanada and Reg from the Royal Navy group (on the Green side) and – as has almost become tradition – HQ Olimp (on the Blue side). In June, within just two days after registration for Fedrunek 2025 opened, all 450 originally available tickets sold out. The final number of participants was 487 players. Closing the sign-up list early allowed faction commanders to quickly begin preparations – defining structures, objectives, procedures, and preliminary plans.

Upon arrival on Saturday morning, participants were greeted by a lively parking lot. Although not very large and quite muddy in places, it still accommodated all vehicles. The player registration and replicas muzzle energy measuring process received very positive feedback – thanks to the event partners’ support, it went extremely smoothly and almost without queues.

As in the previous year, the organizers greatly facilitated access to the bases by providing transport for heavy equipment. A light walk to the designated locations thus became a pleasant warm-up... albeit in quite a hurry.

The organizers were a few minutes late with starting the briefing, which – combined with the march of nearly 500 players divided into factions – meant that participants reached their bases shortly before the game’s scheduled start at 12:00.

Some started right on time, others after setting up camp – but all began carrying out their HQ-assigned missions, which were to last the full 24 hours. Throughout the game, organizers and their assistants – including members of FOKA, responsible for moderation and NPC roles – could often be seen in the field. During our participation, we witnessed many interesting missions and had the chance to see and test a wide range of electronic devices and impressively crafted props that enhanced immersion and player engagement. All encountered elements worked reliably, though some solutions weren’t entirely intuitive.

One of those, however, can hardly be blamed on the organizers. The automated mining timers that distributed resources featured illuminated buttons in colors assigned to each faction. When one side controlled a mine, only the rival-colored button was active. Despite clear instructions on the device itself, we witnessed allies accidentally switching control to the opposing side three times during the scenario.

Another element worth mentioning were the patches. By default, they served as the main (though not mandatory) way to distinguish players from both sides of the conflict. While we’re strong advocates of games where engaging a target should always be preceded by proper identification, the very similar color palettes and patterns on both factions’ insignia made this quite difficult – often forcing players to close the distance to within 10–20 meters to be absolutely sure.

The following hours – both day and night – passed without major issues or incidents. The atmosphere in the field was generally friendly, and both sides fought in the spirit of fair play. The game ended punctually at 12:00 on Sunday, after which players packed up, sent their gear back via transport, and walked to the offgame area, where results were soon announced.

Blue, Green, Green, Blue, Blue, Blue, Blue, Blue, Blue, Green, Green – and now once again Green. After a fierce and balanced battle, the Emerald faction triumphed in the 12th edition of Fedrunek with a score of 142 to 137 points. It took almost 10 years and 12 editions for the Greens to achieve their first hat trick. Overall, however, Sapphire still leads in total victories – which means we can look forward to many more exciting battles in the years to come!
