Following its presentation at SHOT Show 2026, the SDR revolver line from American manufacturer Diamondback Firearms gains another important chapter that is sure to attract the attention of fans of compact defensive handguns. The series known as the “Self Defense Revolver” has already stood out thanks to a number of design features – a six-round cylinder, modern styling, and ergonomics tailored for everyday carry – but this year’s new addition introduces a significant innovation at the very core of the system.

The new SDR-A model is the first variant to feature an aluminum frame made from forged 7075-T6 alloy. Thanks to this, the unloaded weight comes in at approximately 440 g, making the SDR-A the lightest revolver in the SDR family, while still maintaining the necessary rigidity and durability for firing full-power ammunition. The aluminum frame, combined with a steel six-shot cylinder and a two-inch barrel, not only reduces overall weight but also lowers the price compared to the all-steel variants in the lineup.

The SDR-A is chambered in .38 Special +P, clearly positioning it within the everyday carry and personal defense segment. The aluminum frame is paired with a concealed hammer, which improves draw smoothness from a holster, minimizes the risk of snagging, and simplifies weapon handling in high-stress scenarios.

Like the other revolvers in the SDR lineup, the SDR-A features a six-chamber cylinder, standard fiber-optic sights, and the series’ distinctive push-button quick-release cylinder system, allowing for easy, tool-free cleaning and maintenance. The frame follows the popular J-frame standard, making it compatible with a wide range of accessories designed for this type of platform.

The revolver is finished in a glass bead coating, while standard Hogue rubber grips provide a secure hold and comfortable handling. Identical dimensions to other SDR models mean that the new SDR-A, measuring just over 17 cm in length, is well suited for concealed carry or use as a backup firearm. The U.S. MSRP has been set at approximately $614, making it a competitive option in the compact defensive revolver segment.
