Events from the Recon Squad series are 36-hour tactical shooting games that require significantly more physical preparation than the one-day tactical competitions that have been rapidly emerging in recent years. In addition to the ability to shoot from forced positions, participants must be well prepared not only physically but also mentally for a long-distance endurance challenge. The format adopted by the organizers involves a march of several dozen kilometers with navigation, carrying all equipment for the duration of the competition (including weapons and ammunition), in order to reach the shooting range by early morning and continue with the shooting part of the event.

Delta Recon Squad – Proxy War is organized by the Gorzów B.R.A.S.S. Shooting Association at the GTS Brass Gorzów shooting range. This is already the fourth edition of the competition, and this year’s storyline refers back to the one from 2023:
“You were here in 2023. Your task was to evacuate two of our men from enemy territory. You failed. Now we have a second chance to recover at least one of them. Major Lovemore is your HVT (High Value Target). You will be operating in an area controlled by separatists, avoiding detection and direct engagement. {…}
The enemy’s separatist forces do not adhere to military standards, often using civilian or dual-use equipment such as civilian off-road vehicles. This does not change the fact that they patrol the occupied area using them. Their uniforms are also not standardized.
This time, do it right so there’s no blaming intelligence again for sending you to the wrong camp. Good luck.”

Participants compete in pairs in two categories: Recon and Sniper, which differ in the set of tasks to be completed. The competition begins with participants being transported by the organizer to the Witnica area, approximately 35 km from the shooting range, with the game area covering around 50 km². On the way back, aside from hidden navigation points scattered across the terrain, participants can expect several task-based checkpoints during the daytime phase, similar to previous years. After speaking with the organizer, we already know about the return of the water crossing using rafts known from 2023, a combat medicine task, infiltration of a guarded camp, and a new form of observation and stalking, where participants in the Sniper category will have to avoid detection by competitors in the Recon category who are observing the area.
The night phase does not include special tasks, and participants are only required to complete the return route to the shooting range, passing designated points and… not getting caught along the way while crossing a symbolic border. The shooting phase includes 10 stages, including two longer courses. The participation fee this year is 1400 PLN per pair. This year, participants may also arrive a day earlier to stay overnight at the shooting range before the Saturday start.
The event once again has a title sponsor in the form of the Polish optics manufacturer Delta Optical. Delta Recon Squad – Proxy War is also financially supported and supplied with prizes by the following companies: e-Militaria.pl, TAC-Kos, OPtactical.eu, Husar, and Lekko Solutions. The WMASG portal is a media partner of the event and will also field its own team, so expect coverage.
These are the final moments to fine-tune your gear. Those who trained are already prepared, while the rest can only hope for good condition and favorable weather. See you in two weeks at the GTS Brass Gorzów shooting range near Gorzów Wielkopolski!
