IWI Carmel - this sweet-sounding name was given to the prototype of the new ISR Israeli carbine, presented for the first time during the LAAD 2019 expo in Brazil.
The IWI Carmel assault rifle is a select-fire weapon that works on the principle of a short stroke gas piston. It has a manual gas regulator and uses conventional rotational locking mechanism. The upper receiver is made of aluminum alloy and the lover receiver is made of polymer. The carbine design includes quick detach barrels, which are offered in four lengths, from 27 to 41 cm (10.5 to 20 inches).
The IWI Carmel is fully ambidextrous and can be powered from all types of STANAG-compatible magazines. It has an adjustable, side folding stock with an adjustable cheek pad. A range of optical sights can be mounted on the Picatinny rail integrated with the upper receiver. An optional 40 mm grenade launcher can be mounted under the barrel. The rifle, without ammunition, weighs 3.3 kg, and the maximum rate of fire is 850 rounds per minute.
The rifle is still in development and the date of production commencement has not yet been announced.
