Steiner has unveiled the MPS 2.0 Micro Pistol Sight, the second generation of its enclosed-emitter pistol red dot sight. The first materials concerning the new model appeared on August 1, 2026. As the MPS 2.0 is an evolution of an existing model, the manufacturer has focused primarily on addressing the practical shortcomings of the older sight.
The MPS belongs to the enclosed emitter category, meaning that the emitter is located inside a sealed housing. Unlike conventional open-emitter designs, the enclosed housing provides better protection for the entire system against water, mud, dust and other contaminants, which is particularly important for sights mounted on pistols. The first Steiner MPS was introduced in 2021 and was designed from the outset as a durable pistol sight. The design featured an enclosed emitter, an Aimpoint ACRO footprint, a 3.3 MOA dot and eight brightness levels, including two intended for use with night vision devices. Power was supplied by a CR1632 battery, with a claimed battery life of 13,000 hours. The first-generation MPS also featured a 13-hour automatic shut-off mode.
The most important change in the MPS 2.0 is the new CR2032 battery, which increases the claimed battery life from 13,000 to as much as 90,000 hours at the fourth brightness setting. At maximum brightness, the sight is rated for 27,000 hours of operation. This is an almost sevenfold increase over the first generation at a comparable brightness level. The battery compartment itself has also been redesigned. The MPS 2.0 features a magnetic battery retention system and a redesigned cover, ensuring that the battery stays in place during replacement. The buttons on the MPS 2.0 are also larger, making them easier to operate while wearing gloves. Steiner has retained the eight brightness levels, six for daytime and low-light use and two compatible with night vision devices.
A button lockout has also been added to prevent accidental changes to the settings. It is activated by holding both buttons down for five seconds. The new model can use the 13-hour auto-off mode, while the manufacturer also allows users to disable this function if keeping the optic continuously ready for use is a priority. The MPS 2.0 retains the Aimpoint ACRO footprint, but has received a modified mounting interface. The design features a longer and more robust clamp intended to increase the rigidity and strength of the connection. This is important because mounting stability is one of the potential weak points of some enclosed-emitter red dot sights. In a test conducted by The Firearm Blog, the MPS 2.0 was mounted on a Springfield Armory 1911 chambered in .45 ACP, and no recoil-related issues were observed during firing. Steiner has also reinforced the all-metal housing, while the deeply recessed window is additionally protected by an integrated metal shroud. The new model is rated for submersion in water to a depth of 20 meters and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 60°C.
Importantly, these changes have not resulted in any significant increase in the sight's dimensions, which are approximately 45 x 32 x 32 mm. The difference in weight is more noticeable, however. The new model weighs approximately 66 grams, compared with around 58 grams for the first generation, representing an 8-gram increase in weight. The MPS 2.0 offers true 1x magnification, a 3.3 MOA dot and a 21 x 16 mm window. Adjustment is 1 MOA per click, with a total adjustment range of 90 MOA in both elevation and windage. Steiner also points to the possibility of using the sight on other platforms. The manufacturer lists, among others, rifles, SBRs and shotguns.
Ultimately, this is not an entirely new sight, but rather a second, upgraded generation of an already well-known model.
