The US Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division has sent out a request for information (RFI) regarding the possibility of purchasing M110K1 rifle conversion kits for the Creedmoor 6.5 mm round.
The M110K1 is a variant of the M110 semi-automatic sniper system and is used in the US Army and the Marine Corps. Made by the Knight's Armament Company, the rifle is similar to the SR-25, but has significant differences in terms of its stock design and rail system. The 6.5 mm Creedmoor round, developed by the Hornady company, was specially designed to be used at distances of up to 1000 meters and can be used in the Stoner AR-10 and its derivatives, provided that an appropriately adapted upper receiver is used. Because the M110 is based on the AR-10 design, it can use the 6.5 mm Creedmoor round.
The M110K1 uses the 7.62 × 51 mm NATO round, but if the conversion for the Creedmoor 6.5 mm round is completed, the rifle will "gain" a decreased recoil at almost the same lever as when using a the 5.56 mm round, which translates into better rate of fire and weapon control.
The Airsoft version of the M110/K is produced by Ares Airsoft and is based on another product in the company's offer, i.e. the SR25 AEG rifle.
