According to an announcement published on 28.10 by Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), the Knights Armament Company offered the US government conversion kits for the M110K1 semi-automatic sniper system (SASS). The new upper receivers are designed to use the 6.5 mm Creedmoor round.
The new round gives the possibility of firing more precise shots from a greater distance compared to the 7.62x51mm NATO round currently used in the M110 rifles.
The M110 rifle and its development variants are derivatives of the legendary KAC SR25 design also known as the Mk11 mod 0. The semi-automatic sniper rifle has been in the arsenal of Navy SEALs, Army Rangers or Delta Force and the Polish JW GROM for many years.
