At the very end of 2023, photos of interesting concepts were published on the Spuhr AB social media profile (affiliated with the Swedish weapon mounts and accessories manufacturer, Spuhr and Dalby AB), which were not implemented at that time. Their creator decided to share the idea and history behind them.
Some time ago, a well-known SF unit contacted the manufacturer, looking for a designer and contractor to make a special mount for Aimpoint red dot sights, which would enable quick switching between two aiming point positions set by the user. The demand for such a solution resulted from the desire to use the sight with a .300 BLK caliber weapon with two types of ammunition with significantly different ballistic characteristics: supersonic and subsonic.
It should be noted that this took place before other types of products appeared on the market, such as the TARAC® made by TACOM HQ™ or the Wilcox BOSS targeting system ™.
First of all, a special mount was designed that allowed two-stage switching of the setting using a lever. However, they did not like the idea because it allowed the second position to be adjusted only vertically, while changes in the bullet trajectory when using subsonic ammunition also required horizontal adjustments.
The manufacturer decided that adding a second adjustment level to this solution may prove problematic. Instead, he proposed integrating it with the mount's base, but only in a previously determined manner and coupled it with changing the vertical settings. The inability to make independent corrections again resulted in the project being rejected.
At this point, the simplest possible solution was proposed: a mount visible in the title photo that allows for attaching two identical red dot sights in the main sighting line, set for both types of ammunition. This also did not meet the expectations of the customer, who then turned to the competition for help. According to Spuhr AB (which patented the latter project), the lack of reasonable products on the market allows them to assume that the next contractor did not meet the original requirements.
The entire initiative was not in vain, as the mount patented by the manufacturer was included in the product catalog for 2024.
