Last weekend (26-28/04/2024), the sixteenth international long-range shooting competition called Long Shot 2024, took place at two long-range shooting ranges of the training grounds in Wędrzyn under the honorary patronage of the Polish Minister of National Defense. The competition is addressed to every shooter who has the appropriate weapon and feels capable of shooting at ranges from 100 m (historical weapons) to 1,500 m (modern weapons). Both civilian and uniformed services shooters took part. This year, participants came from 12 countries. The weather was good and provided the participants with demanding competition conditions, it didn't rain, it was mostly sunny, but there was also a lot of wind, especially on the last day.
The Silesian Delta Practical Shooting Club and the Międzyrzecz Nietoperek Shooting Center in cooperation with the General Command of the Armed Forces are responsible for organizing the competition. Since the first edition, the main sponsor of the event has been the Hubertus Pro store, providing valuable prizes for the best shooters who returned home with Nightforce scopes this year. At the Hubertus Pro stand, the newest Nightforce Configurable Field Spotting Scope: 6-36x50mm F1 was on display, which premiered during this year's SHOT Show in Las Vegas, which we wrote about here. There were also special sponsors like Lapua, Schmidt & Bender and Ford companies, whose two Rangers helped the judges reach the targets after the end of each round.
The event was also supported by companies such as Delta Optical, Incorsa and Parabellum stores, as well as Mactronic with its offer of flashlights (among other products, the Storm 1LP angle flashlight introduced at the beginning of this year) and the Streamlight brand, the manufacturer of Mets shooting targets, General Nano Protection, manufacturer of gun care products, as well as the Janczewski Olsztyn store with Hornets Nest and Janczewski Custom. You could get acquainted with the offers of these companies (and those interested could also make purchases) on site at specially set up stands. During breaks between rounds, shooters could regenerate at the food court.
The competition accepted individual shooters and teams in the following categories: Tactical Standard, Tactical Standard Semi-Auto, Tactical Magnum, Tactical Super Magnum, Open and Production Rifle. For enthusiasts of longer ranges, there were categories held at the "Trzemeszno" tactical range: 1000+ Tactical Standard, 1000+ Tactical Standard Semi-Auto, 1000+ Tactical Magnum, 1000+ Open, 1000+ Production Rifle. Owners of historical weapons competed in History Rifle Military and History Rifle Open at ranges from 100 to 300 meters.
Compared to last year's edition, the lack of a greater presence of the Polish Army was noticeable. The competition went quite smoothly, although there were delays at the beginning and the end, which is why we unfortunately did not stay to see the official ending ceremony. The Long Shot competition takes place in a great, friendly atmosphere at a facility shrouded in many legends. It is not only a competition, but also an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences between long-range shooting enthusiasts, get acquainted with the offers of the invited leading companies in the shooting industry, and also have a nice time. Many participants come with accompanying people.
