Due to the change in the applicable templates of documents related to the possession and trade of firearms introduced in June 2023, which we wrote about some time ago, from October 2, 2024, the police will issue documents is accordance with the new template. These changes concern:

1. Weapon registration card,
2. Identification card of a person authorized to possess a firearm,
3. Weapon owner's ID card,
4. Weapon certificate,
5. Certificate authorizing for the acquisition of a firearm,
6. Certificate authorizing for the acquisition of a firearm or ammunition,
7. Certificate replacing a firearms permit and authorizing the export of firearms and ammunition from the territory of the Republic of Poland,
8. Certificate replacing a firearms permit and authorizing the export of firearms and ammunition from the territory of the Republic of Poland by a foreigner,
9. Consent to the export of firearms or ammunition from the territory of the Republic of Poland.

This means the end of the transitional period that has been ongoing since the entry into force of the new regulations, when old-style documents were still issued from existing stocks. Of course, previously issued old-style documents remain valid, and the new regulations apply to newly issued ones.

The new documents are slightly larger than the old design, and the horizontal layout of the personal data page makes the new document look a bit more like a passport.
