One of the world's largest manufacturers of optoelectronic devices, B.E. Meyers & Co., announced in mid-June that it had secured another major contract with the United States Armed Forces. The company will deliver 8,936 DAGIR-V1 laser systems, which are scheduled to enter service with the U.S. Army during fiscal year 2027 as part of the infantry modernization program and efforts to enhance night-fighting capabilities. The contract was awarded by the Program Executive Office Ground Soldier Systems through the PM Soldier Lethality office and the Defense Logistics Agency Tailored Logistics Support program.
DAGIR-V1is a multifunction weapon-mounted laser system powered by a single CR123A battery. The device integrates an infrared laser pointer, a visible laser, and an IR illuminator. It was specifically designed for use with night vision systems and employs VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) diodes, which provide a more uniform beam pattern, greater effective illumination range, and improved resistance to interference encountered in adverse weather conditions and high ambient light environments. The configuration selected by the U.S. Army features a 40 mW infrared aiming laser and two 350 mW VCSEL illuminators. Weighing approximately 220 g with the battery installed, the unit allows the operator to adjust both beam divergence and output power without removing their hand from the weapon's firing grip. The entire system is housed in a sealed, waterproof enclosure manufactured from 6061-T6 aerospace-grade aluminum.
The new order is part of the M7 Surrogate Fire Control Program, which supports the fielding of the M7 rifle, the successor to the iconic M4A1, across U.S. Army combat units.However, the DAGIR family is not new to the U.S. military. The DAGIR-V1 variant was previously adopted by USSOCOM under the SAL-UHP program, while the newer DAGIR-V2 model entered service through the MAL-UHP program. The latest award therefore represents a continuation of the company's long-standing cooperation with the U.S. military in supplying advanced laser aiming systems.B.E. Meyers emphasizes that all of its products are manufactured in the United States and are intended to further enhance the combat effectiveness of American troops operating in low-visibility environments.
