Mounting a red dot sight on a Glock has traditionally meant choosing between permanently modifying the factory slide by milling it, purchasing a new slide, or simply replacing the pistol with an optics-ready model. Sightmark has introduced the G-Shot, a no-cut optic micro red dot, also described as a drop-on design that mounts directly onto the factory slide. The new optic has been developed for Glock owners who do not want to mill their slide, use adapter plates, or replace their pistol with an optics-ready version.
The optic is designed to fit factory Glock slides from Gen 3, Gen 4, and Gen 5 pistols. Compatible models include the G17, G19, G22, G23, G24, G26, G27, G34, G35, G41, G45, and G47, although the manufacturer excludes the Gen 5 versions of the G22 and G23. Sightmark states that the optic is intended for installation on original factory slides, but notes that fitment may vary between individual pistols. In some cases, minor fitting may be required.
The design forms an external housing that encloses the rear portion of the slide and uses a proprietary custom Glock direct clamp mounting system, securing the optic directly to the factory slide. Installation is performed by sliding the optic onto the rear of the slide and securing it with two mounting screws. Both screws should be tightened to 1.12 Nm (10 in-lbs). The extremely tight fit is intended to ensure stability during the slide's reciprocating movement. The housing is made of cast aluminum with a matte black finish. Deep angled serrations on both sides of the rear housing provide additional gripping surfaces for racking the slide, making the pistol easier to manipulate once the optic is installed.
The sight leaves room for the factory rear sight, which remains usable. However, the housing does not feature a co-witness cut, meaning the iron sights cannot be viewed through the optic window. The unusual housing, which covers the entire rear of the slide, may also reduce compatibility with some holsters designed for Glock pistols equipped with conventionally mounted red dot sights.
G-Shot is an open-emitter reflex sight equipped with a 3 MOA red dot. The optical system features a 20 × 16 mm viewing window and an anti-reflective (AR) coated lens. The optic offers true 1× magnification, unlimited eye relief, and is factory-set to be parallax-free at approximately 45.7 meters (50 yards). Windage and elevation are adjusted via two recessed screws. The adjustment range is 90 MOA on both axes, and the adjustment mechanisms operate smoothly without tactile clicks.
G-Shot does not feature conventional control buttons, manual brightness adjustment, or a night vision mode. Instead, it uses a motion-activated power system along with an integrated ambient light sensor, which automatically adjusts the brightness of the red dot according to surrounding lighting conditions. After a period of inactivity, the optic powers itself down to conserve battery life. It is powered by a single CR1632 battery housed in a compartment beneath the front section of the housing. Maximum claimed battery life is 16,000 hours, although at maximum brightness this drops to approximately 110 hours. The optic operates in an always-on mode, meaning routine user interaction is essentially limited to battery replacement and zero adjustment.
The optic is rated to the IP67 standard, providing protection against dust ingress and temporary immersion in water. It is also designed to withstand drops from approximately 0.9 meters (3 feet) and to operate in temperatures ranging from -25°C to 60°C. The optic measures approximately 64 mm in length, 37 mm in width, and 46 mm in height, with a weight of 48 g excluding the battery.
At present, the G-Shot is available exclusively on the U.S. market.
