Krakow-based company DK Arms has recently added a fully adjustable steel trigger designed for the popular UZI to its product range. The new component is intended to alter the characteristics of the factory trigger mechanism by adjusting the pre-travel and the movement of the trigger after the mechanism has been released.
The design features a system that allows adjustment of pre-travel and over-travel. Adjustment is handled by two screws positioned in a single channel, allowing both parameters to be set independently. The manufacturer states that it is possible to completely eliminate pre-travel and significantly reduce over-travel. According to DK Arms, the result is a shorter and faster reset, which is intended to change the dynamics of operating the firearm.
The geometry of the trigger itself has also been modified. According to the manufacturer, the redesigned shape optimizes the angle of finger pressure, which is intended to provide more consistent hand positioning when operating the trigger. The change in geometry is also designed to provide more distinct feedback from the trigger, while the adjustment allows the characteristics of the mechanism to be tailored without having to retain the factory settings. The component itself is machined from solid steel and finished with a blued surface.
The most interesting aspect of the new product is the durability test results stated by the manufacturer. DK Arms reports that the trigger underwent more than 50,000 test cycles, while after 5,000 rounds it was reportedly still maintaining the claimed 100-percent stability.
The development of such an accessory is particularly interesting in the case of the UZI, as it is a design dating back to the late 1940s and early 1950s. Developed in Israel, the UZI quickly became one of the most recognizable submachine guns in the world. Its popularity was driven not only by its widespread use by military and law-enforcement forces around the globe, but also by its distinctive appearance and presence in popular culture.
Over the following decades, numerous variants derived from the iconic design were developed, and the UZI also entered the civilian market in various configurations. The continued presence of the firearm after so many years means that a market for parts and accessories for older examples still exists. The new product from the Małopolska region fits into the trend of adapting relatively old designs to modern expectations regarding ergonomics.
