For most of us BLACKHAWK! name is well known. Its enough to mention its flagship products such as the Serpa holsters, rigger's belts and rescue belts, the Commando chest rig, SOLAG gloves and many more.
The company has been on the market since 1990 when, quoting the company's website, "a Navy SEAL was navigating a minefield when his pack failed. As his gear tumbled to the ground, he vowed that if he got out of there alive he would make gear the right way." That's how it happened, and the equipment from the first production series now has a cult status.
It seems that BLACKHAWK!, once again, wants to competed for the market of holsters. The Serpa series, in its time, was considered revolutionary, offering comfortable weapon carrying, lightweight materials and an affordable price. Unfortunately, over time, the design of the weapon's retention system based on a latch holding the trigger guard revealed its drawbacks. There have been many cases of people shooting themselves by placing the finger too quickly on the trigger after removing the weapon from the holster. Rumor has it that many professional shooting instructors in the United States have banned the use of Serpa holsters on their courses.
A new series of holsters from BLACKHAWK!, named the T-series, seems to be a response to the above allegations.
The retention of weapons in the holster is done by using a thumb-activated system rather than an index finger as was the case with the Serpa system. The system seems to be similar to the Safariland ALS. Holsters are made of reinforced polymer with a hydrophobic lining that further reduces the sound produced when drawing and putting a weapon back into the holster.
T-Series holsters are available in the L2D (level 2 retention) version, that is without the hood additionally protecting the weapon against accidental drawing and the L3D (level 3retention ) with the above mentioned feature. At the moment there are holsters available for GLOCK 17/19/22/23/34/35 pistols in black.
The prices are 129.95 SUD for the L2D and 149.95 SUD for the L3D.
