Vortex Optics has a chance to soon join the prestigious group of manufacturers of equipment for the American armed forces (and as you know, this information opens many doors and wallets), thanks to a significant contract for the future scope called the XM157 Next Generation Squad Weapon - Fire Control (NGSW-FC).

The contract is scheduled to run for 10 years, during which Vortex is to deliver 250,000 sights for a maximum of $ 2.7 billion. The Vortex product outclassed the other competitors, such as L3Harris Technologies, cooperating on this project with another tycoon in the field of optical sights, the Leupold company.

Let us remind you that we wrote at WMASG about granting Vortex funds for the prototype of the above-mentioned sight in April 2020. The XM157 sight is a "combined" targeting device - it is equipped with an optical sight (originally with a variable magnification of 1 to 8), a laser rangefinder, a compass, a targeting lasers (IR and classic), a ballistic computer and a set of sensors recording weather conditions. In addition, the XM157 is to be able to wirelessly connect to the still developed Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) unit to ensure maximum imaging and precision of targeting for each soldier.

As mentioned above, the new sight will be mounted on the soon to be selected winners of the US ARMY-Next Generation Squad Weapons program (sources say that it is to take place within the next few months), which we also wrote about many times at WMASG. Only SIG Sauer and Lone Star Future Weapons/True Velocity remain in the competition after Textron has opted out of further proceedings.
