Israel Weapon Industries has signed a contract worth approximately $2.9 million to supply another batch of the X95 Tavor carbines to the army.
Israel's Ministry of Defense has announced that a contract for 2,800 additional IWI Micro Tavor carbines has been signed this week. The carbines will be used by the elite Nahal, Golani and Givat infantry brigades. The Tavor, in 5.56 NATO caliber, has been serving in regular and reserve combat formations of the Israeli military since 2006.
The contract covers Micro Tavor variants with 15- and 16.5-inch barrels, which will be equipped with M1913 Picatinny rails to mount all accessories currently used by the IDF, including the 40 mm IWI grenade launcher (photo below). The Micro Tavor, nominally chambered in 5.56, can be reconfigured to use 9x19mm, 5.45x39mm and 300 BLK rounds.
In addition to the Tavor, IWI is also the current supplier of the Negev light machine gun for the IDF and exports a variety of small arms, including the Galil Ace platform, ARAD, Carmel and DAN rifle systems, and the Masada line of pistols. The company also produces the Uzi Pro and Jericho guns.
