5" Assault Cummerbund (5AC) is a skeletal, semi-rigid cummerbund designed to support heavy equipment loads. Developed by Ferro Concepts, the design measures approximately 13 cm (5 inches) in height and weighs just 300 g. At its core is a laser-cut, color-matched thermoplastic laminate, which provides vertical rigidity while keeping the overall weight low. This construction distributes the weight of carried equipment more evenly and significantly reduces the tendency of the plate carrier to sag under heavy loads. The cummerbund also features a concealed section of elastic expansion panels engineered to accommodate chest movement. As a result, despite its semi-rigid construction, the 5AC flexes with the wearer's body, improving comfort during both high-intensity movement and deep breathing.

The interior of the cummerbund incorporates integrated One-Wrap hook-and-loop retainers, allowing communication cables to be routed neatly inside the cummerbund, either along the top or bottom edge thanks to its symmetrical design. This solution helps prevent cables from snagging on other equipment during operation.
The 5AC is equally suited to lightweight patrol setups and fully equipped combat loadouts. It is compatible with plate carriers featuring Velcro attachment panels, MOLLE systems, as well as Ferro Concepts 3AC Side Soft Armor inserts and 3AC Side Plate Pockets 6x6. It should be noted, however, that installing side armor or carrying a radio inside the cummerbund will reduce its internal circumference. The 5AC is available in Medium, Large, and Extra Large sizes.
The cummerbund is equipped with D-handle pull tabs, making it easy to release under stress, in low-light conditions, or while wearing tactical gloves. The product is entirely manufactured in the United States and complies with the military Berry Compliant standard. Additionally, all materials meet NIR (Near Infrared) compliance requirements, reducing infrared reflectivity and making the equipment less visible under night vision devices.
