The FN America company announced the release of the SCAR 20S precision rifle chambered for the Creedmoor 6.5 round, which is becoming extremely popular. The introduction of the new caliber is also accompanied by new color options, including matt black and the Flat Dark Earth color, characteristic for SCAR rifles.
The new SCAR in 6.5 Creedmoor caliber is equipped with a 20-inch long barrel with a 1: 8 twist rate and the SureFire ProComp 762 muzzle device. The barrel is made of the same steel from which FN produces the barrels of its machine guns. It is cold forged and chrome plated to extend its service life.
Like the 7.62 FN SCAR 20S, the new rifle has a uniform upper receiver (constituting of a single piece with mounting rails) with a large space for mounting the optics. The weapon is equipped with the Geissele Super SCAR two-stage trigger with resistance between 3.5 and 4.5 pounds. The FN MK 20 SSR precision stock provides excellent support, while the Hogue pistol grip guarantees a secure grip. Both the in 7.62 and 6.5 Creedmoor variants accept 10 or 20 round 17S magazines.
The 6.5 mm Creedmoor round conquered the long-distance shooting market by storm. thanks to its increased efficiency, reduced recoil, flatter trajectory and reduced wind susceptibility compared to its most popular round among military snipers, at the time, the 7.62 NATO round (.308 Winchester).
